Shotcrete

Shotcrete is a form of concrete which is pneumatically projected through a nozzle at high
speed with the help of air compressor. It can be impacted onto any type or shape of surface, including vertical or overhead areas.

This Technique was first invented in the early 20 th century by the American Carl Akeley. For this
invention, he got patent for both the concrete gun and the developed material called gunite.

How it works?, there are two types of shotcrete depending on the state of the mix, the dry mix and the wet mix.

The dry mix method involves putting the concrete ingredients into hopper and then projected pneumatically through the hose to the nozzle. The water is added after that by the nozzle man who controls the addition of water through the nozzle.

The complete mixing in the above method occurs when the mixture hits the surface. The mixture here called gunite. It is perfect in repairing work which has repeated stops and the dry material can be easily extracted.

The wet mix, in this case the mixture is already prepared and left ready to be projected to the surface. The advantage here, that this method can cover huge volumes and also have less waste and dust through the operation.

The applications of this method are many, such as soil nailing, tunnels side walls and covering vertical, sloped or overhead areas. And for the reinforcement, a normal reinforcement can be good but a little
